Honoring the past, designed for the present.
The office is housed within an old British-era building, and that itself pulled me towards designing a space that is deeply rooted in its own setting. I wanted to preserve the character, warmth and sense of history of the existing architecture, rather than impose a completely new identity on it.
The design therefore revolves around natural wood, restrained detailing, muted tones and thoughtfully crafted furniture. Rich timber paneling and cabinetry run through the spaces, creating continuity while bringing warmth, depth and a sense of permanence. The furniture has been deliberately chosen with a subtle vintage, almost mid-century character—wooden frames, cane detailing and classic proportions—so that every new element feels naturally connected to the building.
The space is designed minimal and intentional. The materiality of the wood and the architecture to remain the heroes.
Lighting was treated as an important part of the design. Controlled pools of light create a play of light and shadow, while warmer illumination brings depth and intimacy to the timber surfaces. The intention was not simply to light the space uniformly, but to create an atmosphere that changes with the light and enhances the character of the architecture.
The result is an office that sits between the old and the new—modern enough to function as a contemporary workplace, yet respectful enough to retain the soul of the old British building.
The intent was never to erase the history of the space, but to let the new design coexist with it.
